Board Tests Live: Hatteras
April 18, 2011

Isthmus staff member Jon Massmann just returned from the Windsurfing Magazine “Board Tests Live” board test held in Avon, NC from March 26 – April 10. The test revolved around the newest 106 liter – 160 liter Freeride / Slalom / Light Air Freeride board designs and a field of testers from consumers to shop employees from across the USA and Canada. All the participants were dedicated windsurfers with great spirits, capable short board skills and a fun group to be around.

The venue and conditions proved to be excellent for testing the latest designs in these categories head to head. Jon’s week-one weather conditions were cool with winds from 5-25 mph. Many of the testers had GoPro cameras and or GPS devices (Jon had both) which added to the mix of test results, daily video blogs and spirited end of week discussions.

Notables were: Pro sailor Josh Angulo 2 day visit from Africa. The Board Toss – NCAA basketball tournament style - using some late 80’s glass boards. Testing conditions were relative to most consumer base sailing experiences (not Maui).

If interested in learning about the boards Jon tested, feel free to contact him via phone 608-849-0601 (direct line) or email jon@isthmussailboards.com.
